Backstory:
Found on the steps of a priory as a baby, a quick genetic scan revealed Locot Doutwood to be the son of a notorious outlaw and a harlot. The prior decided that they would take him in and raise him, but not before removing his surname and any connection he had to his parentage. The friars simply removed the blasphemous apostrophe (the Church having decreed that all true names have none) from his surname and added the suffix "wood."
At the age of twenty, Locot was chosen as a member of the Church's Seven Seals Initiative, of which the mandate is to train certain faithful members, equip them with some of the best equipment the Church has to offer, and send them forth into the wild outer colonies to bring the Word to the ungodly that dwell therein. A requirement of the program is to bond with a Krech, a slug-like creature whose race represents one of the Church's earliest and most complete successes. Nearly the entire Krech race was converted near the beginning of the Church's aggressive movement to spread across the universe. When another race bonds with one of the slugs, it wraps itself around the host race's brainstem, allowing it to access the host's mind at will and effectively control its every move. Locot's Krech is a descendant of a long line of pious scholars, so through the race's genetic memory, it has much knowledge of the Word and matters of theology. It is under strict orders to only assume control when its knowledge is needed, as its full control only hampers Locot's natural skill and reflexes.
To His Eminence Cardinal Titus Bravo, President of the Internal Affairs Committee,
As ordered in the Operation Judas mandate, my team has been investigating the possibility of a Krech betrayl. As you know, many whisper that the Church is allowing itself to be taken over by the Krech, especially with the recent elevation of Cardinal Aturec. The Church is a pervasive force throughout the galaxy, and if it was taken over by the Krech, they would possess much power indeed. However, findings have been scarce. Whispers and shadows, nothing more. I beg your forgiveness for being so empty handed; we will continue our investigation to its completion.
Ever Vigilant,
Docius Kremble
Agent of the Church Intelligence Agency
